Book Your Whitening

Two ways to whiten your smile

At Prahran Family Dental we use SDI Pola, a professional whitening system, applied and supervised by Dr Jun Kim. You can choose the option that suits you.

In-Chair Whitening — $395

Whitening carried out in a single visit at our Prahran practice. We protect your gums, apply the professional-strength gel and lift surface staining while you relax in the chair. Ideal if you would like a noticeable change before an event or simply prefer to have it done for you.

Take-Home Kit — $295

Custom-fitted trays are made from impressions of your teeth, along with professional whitening gel to use at home over one to two weeks. A gradual, convenient option that you control at your own pace, with trays you can top up with in the future.

Teeth whitening lightens natural tooth enamel only. It does not change the colour of existing crowns, veneers, bridges or fillings. Results vary between individuals depending on the type and cause of discolouration, and a check-up may be recommended before treatment to confirm whitening is suitable for you.

Teeth whitening — common questions

What is the difference between in-chair and take-home whitening?

In-chair whitening is completed in a single appointment at the practice using a professional-strength gel applied by Dr Jun. Take-home whitening uses custom-made trays and a milder gel that you wear at home over one to two weeks. In-chair is faster; take-home is more gradual and lets you top up over time. Both use the SDI Pola system.

Is teeth whitening safe for my teeth?

Professional whitening supervised by a dentist is a well-established cosmetic treatment. Because Dr Jun assesses your teeth and gums first and protects the soft tissues during treatment, it is carried out in a controlled way. Whitening is not recommended in some situations, which is why an assessment may be needed before you start.

Will whitening make my teeth sensitive?

Some people notice temporary sensitivity to hot or cold during or shortly after whitening. This usually settles within a few days. Dr Jun can adjust the treatment and suggest ways to manage sensitivity if you are prone to it.

How long do the results last?

Results vary from person to person and depend on your diet and habits. Coffee, tea, red wine and smoking can all cause staining to return over time. Many patients maintain their results by topping up with a take-home kit. There is no guaranteed duration, as every person's teeth respond differently.

Does whitening work on crowns, veneers or fillings?

No. Whitening only lightens natural tooth enamel. Crowns, veneers, bridges and tooth-coloured fillings keep their original shade, so if you have these on visible teeth it is worth discussing with Dr Jun how whitening will look alongside them.

Do I need a check-up before whitening?

A check-up may be recommended so Dr Jun can confirm your teeth and gums are healthy and that whitening is suitable for you. Where a check-up is required prior to treatment, a consultation fee of $65 may apply. This helps ensure a safe and comfortable result.
